Joe Manganiello has responded to a social media post about narcissistic men liked by his ex-wife, Sofia Vergara. The response comes as the actor details his health struggles toward the end of his seven-year marriage in his memoir, “Bloodlines”.
Joe Manganiello responds to questions about Sofía Vergara’s post on narcissistic men
According to People, Manganiello spoke on CBS Mornings, addressing speculation regarding Vergara’s social media activity. Vergara had reportedly liked a post shared by her son, Manolo Gonzalez Vergara. It featured a chart comparing a “good man” with a “narcissistic man.”
The post included the following message: “Remember kids, when dealing with a narcissist, it doesn’t matter how much you do for them, because they will resent you for it and nothing will ever be enough, and they’ll always somehow try to paint you as the bad guy.”
The host questioned Manganiello about the post, noting that it suggested he was narcissistic.
The actor responded, “Well, I think anybody who said that should read the book first and understand what the book is actually about because it’s not about that. It’s about the suffering I went through.”
He described Bloodlines as a story about “survival and it’s also about hope.“
The memoir centers on Manganiello’s autoimmune disease and its damaging impact on his marriage to Vergara. He writes that the relationship had “become devoid of any emotionality whatsoever.” The actor also alleged that Vergara refused to hug him and made fun of his pet Chihuahua.
The couple married in 2015 and split in 2023. Vergara said that the rift stemmed from their differing views on having children. In 2024, she explained, “my husband was younger; he wanted to have kids and I didn’t want to be an old mom … I feel it’s not fair to the baby. I respect whoever does it, but that’s not for me anymore.”
The actor said that their breakup was “not the point of the book,” but it was necessary to tell the story of his mental and physical recovery.
