Gael Cameron is reflecting on a challenging chapter of her life that viewers barely saw during Below Deck Mediterranean. The reality star opened up about moving to Croatia with her newborn son. Her candid post also offered insight into life before Nathan Gallagher’s arrest became public.
Gael Cameron says she was in “survival mode” while adjusting to life as a new mom in Croatia
On Thursday, October 8, Gael shared a reflective Instagram post about the end of the season. “And there goes the close of another season of Med… and another chapter of life ?,” she wrote. She admitted that much of her experience in Croatia remained unseen.
“You didn’t get to see much of my time in Croatia,” Gael explained. She described the period as difficult but said there were positive moments. She also expressed interest in sharing more of that experience with her followers.
The Below Deck Mediterranean star explained how motherhood shaped her time abroad. “I moved away with a new baby and [was] still living in survival mode,” she wrote. Despite the challenges, she believed she had managed the situation well.
Gael also appreciated the opportunity to explore Croatia while caring for her infant son, Kayden. She described him as her “new little best friend.” However, being away from her usual support system made the transition harder.
Her best friend visited for almost three of the six weeks Gael and Kayden spent there. “With an extra set of hands and a bit of care I stopped just surviving,” Gael shared. She said the support helped her feel like herself again.
Gael Cameron’s update about her baby comes amid renewed attention surrounding her relationship with Nathan. The pair spent much of Season 11 apart, with Gael caring for Kayden on land. Nathan visited them when he wasn’t working aboard the yacht.
News of Nathan’s arrest in Australia emerged in August. He was charged following an alleged domestic violence incident in December 2025. He was later convicted of three domestic violence counts after failing to appear in court.
Despite the difficulties, Gael said her time in Croatia taught her about her resilience. “Croatia showed me the strength I have as a mother and as a woman,” she wrote. She concluded that she would keep finding joy even in challenging circumstances.
