Billy Crystal Makes Shocking Confession About God After Rob Reiner’s Murder

Billy Crystal has endured devastating losses that have changed how he views faith and the world. The comedian recently reflected on the loss of his home and his longtime friend, Rob Reiner. His candid confession revealed how deeply these tragedies have affected him.

During an October 11 interview with CBS Sunday Morning, Crystal discussed his changed relationship with God. Correspondent Tracy Smith asked whether he still spoke to God. Crystal responded with an unexpected admission.

“No, ’cause I — I don’t trust him,” he told Smith. When she asked whether he was serious, Crystal confirmed his feelings. “Yeah. Too many bad things have happened,” he explained.

Crystal continued describing the difficult circumstances that had shaken his faith. “The Earth is in bad shape, this is a weird, scary time,” he said. “So no, not anymore,” the actor added.

His remarks followed a devastating period marked by personal grief and displacement. The Palisades fire destroyed Crystal’s Los Angeles home during the region’s wildfires. In December 2025, his longtime friend and collaborator Reiner was murdered.

These losses became central to Crystal’s new Broadway one-man show, 860. He previously explored grief through 700 Sundays, which recounted the loss of his father when he was 15. However, his latest production reflects a different and particularly painful chapter.

Crystal explained that performing comedy helps him navigate difficult experiences. “That’s what I do. You have to, man. You’ve gotta. It’s a healer,” he said. He added that laughter had always helped him through life’s hardest moments.

While discussing Rob Reiner, the actor described his friend’s death as difficult to comprehend. He said the deaths remained “too big” and “insane” to fully process. Crystal also acknowledged that the show had helped him begin healing.

Despite everything, Crystal expressed optimism about his future. “I’m 78 now, and I feel really good, and I’m optimistic for what life is going to bring,” he said. He added that getting through these difficult experiences meant they were doing okay.

Crystal previously honored Reiner during the 2026 Oscars ceremony. He also described his friend as “the most human person that I ever met.” His latest reflections offer a deeply personal look at grief, resilience, and shaken faith.
