Keri Russell and Matthew Rhys have been romantically involved since late 2013, but the couple is not rushing to get married. The Diplomat actress, who was previously married to Shane Deary, has indicated that walking down the aisle again may not be a priority for her.
Keri Russell discussed her decision not to marry Matthew Rhys on the Dear Chelsea podcast
Russell married her former husband in 2007. The pair went their separate ways in 2013, and their divorce became official in 2014. They share two children, son River, 19, and daughter Willa, 13. Russell and Rhys’s relationship began to attract attention after they played a married couple in The Americans. Their fictional romance eventually became real. The pair have been romantically linked since December 2013 and welcomed their son, Sam, in May 2016.
While appearing on the October 8 episode of the Dear Chelsea podcast, Russell shared insights into her long-term relationship with Rhys. The 50-year-old said, “I’ve had a big party. I get to dress up all the time. And I know for a lot of people, marriage is something different. People used to have to be married to have a credit card. We can have credit cards now. I don’t need my last name to go away.” She added, “I’m cool. If you want to be here, be here! If you don’t, that’s cool too.”
Russell also defended Rhys amid criticism over his Emmy acceptance speeches for Widow’s Bay. The actor made history as the first male performer to win the Outstanding Lead Actor Emmy in drama, comedy, and limited series. However, Russell revealed that they had agreed they did not need to thank each other publicly. “We kind of said to each other, we don’t have to thank each other. … Like, to go back to your thing, this is for the business people. Like, thank whoever you want to thank,” she added.
