The Real Housewives of Orange County (RHOC) star Emily Simpson has opened up about her troubled marriage to Shane Simpson. Emily has revealed that parenting responsibilities and filming schedules have added pressure to their marriage.
Emily Simpson opens up about parenting disputes and resentment in her marriage
Speaking on the Real Housewives of Orange County After Show, Emily revealed details about her strained marriage to Shane. She noted that their relationship is under immense pressure. In fact, the couple barely speaks, sleeps separately, and has even discussed divorce.
According to Bravo, their marital struggles intensified when Shane quit his job to care for their children. This included looking after their son Luke, who has ongoing health issues.
“Shane quit working period to be able to take care of kids, and take care of Luke,” Emily said. She noted that tensions intensified as she resumed filming, leaving Shane with the bulk of the parenting responsibilities.
“I think what was hard for me was we got into this place where it was this constant competition between the two of us,” she admitted.
Emily noted that her demanding work schedule, which included travel to Las Vegas and Tokyo, caused resentment in her husband. Shane appeared exhausted, and Emily said his suppressed feelings came out in sarcastic remarks.
“And instead of saying, ‘I’m worn out and exhausted and we need to figure out how we can manage this better,’ I think it came out like snarky shots at me,” Emily explained.
However, she also insisted that her work was equally demanding. “I just get pissed, because it’s like, I’m tired too. It’s not like I’m lying on the couch eating Bon Bons and you’re holding down the fort,” she said. “Like, I felt like I was working equally as hard too.”
“I don’t feel any closeness to him, or any desire, because every time we have a conversation, he’s so snarky towards me and takes shots at me,” she shared.
Emily also noted that she has brought up divorce, but Shane has remained tight-lipped about the subject.
