Martin Scorsese’s Casual Fan Moment Takes a Terrifying Turn in Brooklyn

Martin Scorsese’s quick fan interaction in Brooklyn took an unexpected turn this week. The legendary director stopped to greet people after leaving the Brooklyn Academy of Music. He even signed photos for fans nearby. However, his casual moment ended when a man suddenly moved too close to him.

The incident happened Tuesday, Oct. 6, after Scorsese attended an event at BAM. The 83-year-old director greeted the crowd while his bodyguard stayed nearby. He joked with fans about the cold and autographed a few photos. A man in a blue coat then approached Scorsese from behind while holding a phone.

The video showed the bodyguard quickly noticing the man beside Scorsese. He stepped in and pushed the man against a wall as the crowd reacted. “Do you remember our conversation?” the man shouted at Scorsese. The security team then escorted the filmmaker away and ended the autograph session.

The interruption was not well received by the crowd. Some people shouted at the man and asked what he was doing. After Scorsese left, the man walked around and apologized to fans. “My bad,” he told people who had hoped to meet the director.

The incident also sparked strong reactions on Reddit. One user described it as “absolutely awful.” Another user said admiration for a celebrity does not remove the need to respect personal boundaries. Some Reddit users also made an unverified claim about the man in the blue coat. They alleged that he has a reputation for interrupting celebrity events in New York.

Scorsese had attended BAM for a conversation with Olivia Harrison about The Third Eye. BAM listed the Oct. 6 event as a talk celebrating George Harrison’s photographs. The event took place at the Howard Gilman Opera House. Scorsese’s interaction with fans ended shortly after the security incident.
