Michael Jackson’s Most Coveted ‘Thriller’ Look is Leaving His Legacy Collection

Some of Michael Jackson’s most recognizable fashion pieces are set to return to the auction block nearly two decades after their previous sales.

Julien’s Auctions announced Michael Jackson: The Fashion Legacy Auction on October 7. The event will bring together memorabilia from Jackson’s Thriller music video and his famous Motown 25 performance.

Michael Jackson’s signature “Thriller” look heads to the auction block

Julien’s Auctions scheduled the Michael Jackson auction for December 7 through December 9 at Rosewood Abu Dhabi.

The sale will feature the red-and-black leather Thriller jacket that Jackson wore in the 1983 music video. Collectors can also bid on the black shoes he wore for the video.

As per PEOPLE, the auction house also included two items from Jackson’s 1983 performance of “Billie Jean” during Motown 25: Yesterday, Today, Forever.

Jackson wore the rhinestone-covered Motown 25 glove during the performance in which he debuted the moonwalk. The auction will also offer the Michael Jackson loafers he wore onstage that night.

Julien’s Auctions co-founder and executive director Martin Nolan said collectors had not seen the four pieces at auction in nearly two decades.

“The Thriller jacket is the one the world has never stopped talking about,” Nolan said.

Julien’s previously handled major auctions involving both historic pieces. The auction house set a world record with the Thriller jacket in 2011 and another with the Motown 25 glove in 2009.

Before the December sale, Prince Jackson’s Heal Los Angeles Foundation plans to display the Michael Jackson memorabilia during its annual “This Is Thriller” event.

The Palace Theatre in Downtown Los Angeles will host the display. The historic venue also served as a filming location for portions of the Thriller music video.

The upcoming sale brings together memorabilia from two major moments in Jackson’s career during 1983. Collectors will once again get the chance to bid on the jacket, glove and shoes associated with those performances.
