Bruce Willis’ retirement story and the reason behind it are well known: his diagnosis of frontotemporal dementia. While fans may never get to see their favorite actor on screen again because of the diagnosis, his wife, Emma Heming, refuses to let his story go quiet.
Emma Heming Willis honors Bruce Willis during World FTD Awareness Week
From September 28 to October 4, 2026, World FTD Awareness Week was observed globally. During that time, Emma Heming honored her husband, Bruce Willis, on Instagram with an emotional note, as the retired actor is also living with the disease.
Heming wrote, “I can’t go through World FTD Awareness Week without talking about Bruce. He is the driving force behind my advocacy. He has opened so many doors for me in this work, and I will continue to walk through them.”
“I will not let his diagnosis be in vain. I know how proud he would be to know that he is helping families living with FTD, other forms of dementia and their care partners be seen and heard.” She added.
Emma went on and concluded, “In this next chapter of his life, Bruce continues to build on his legacy. He is, and always will be, a fucking legend. And I am so proud to be his wife. ?✨”
For context, this is not the first time the British model and actress has proudly highlighted her husband’s experience with FTD. We have seen Emma Heming do the same before.
The 50-year-old also published a book last year titled The Unexpected Journey: Finding Strength, Hope, and Yourself on the Caregiving Path. The book primarily serves as a support guide for people caring for loved ones with dementia or another serious illness. It also highlights Bruce Willis’ journey with FTD. The Red 2 star believes caregivers are the unsung heroes of society, often receiving little support or recognition. Through the book, she brings their struggles to the forefront.
