Hoda Kotb returned to Today for a surprise reunion with her former colleagues.
However, she caught Savannah Guthrie during an awkward private moment.
Savannah Guthrie admitted Hoda Kotb’s Today Show visit came at an inconvenient moment
According to OK! Magazine, Kotb dropped in for a reunion with the Today team at Studio 1A on Tuesday. She surprised her former co-workers Craig Melvin, Jenna Bush Hager and others. Melvin, who replaced Kotb after her January 2025 departure, said, “We’ve got a family reunion,” before adding, “Hoda Kotb just popped in.”
Hager also confirmed that Kotb had managed to keep the visit a complete secret. “We talked yesterday, and she wasn’t like, ‘Hey, I’ll see you tomorrow,’” she said. Kotb replied, “I wanted to surprise you!”
Savannah Guthrie, however, was the most surprised by the sudden visit and revealed that she was “naked” when her former colleague came calling. “By the way, this morning I hear a knock on the door and then followed by a ‘Just come right in!’ and I was naked,” Guthrie said. “And it was Hoda. I mean, I was in my underwear, but I was like, ‘Hi!’”
Kotb confirmed the awkward but funny encounter. “She was!” she said. “And we got our hug.” Guthrie later added, “Everyone’s trying to get that visual out of their head of me naked.”
The reunion also prompted jokes about whether Kotb would return to the show. Carson Daly asked, “Hoda, are you back for good? Should Craig get his stuff out of the…,” while Melvin joked, “I’m ready, I’m ready.” Kotb quickly responded, “Craig’s going nowhere!”
Kotb left Today in January 2025 after nearly 20 years with NBC, explaining that she wanted to spend more time with her daughters, Haley and Hope. She also said she wanted to focus on her wellness platform, Joy 101. Kotb remained in contact with the show and briefly returned when Guthrie was away.
This time, however, Kotb clarified that she had returned to report a story rather than resume her former role. The surprise reunion also showed that her bond with Guthrie and her former co-workers remains strong.
