Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are reportedly keeping records of their correspondence with the royal family for their own “protection.” According to an unnamed source, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have accumulated material that could potentially damage the royal family’s public image.

Following their return to the U.K., Meghan Markle and Prince Harry reportedly received an official letter from Buckingham Palace. It reaffirmed their status as non-working royals. The couple remain the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. However, their formal His and Her Royal Highness styles remain in abeyance and are not used. The September 7 letter also clarified that they would continue to be treated as private citizens. They would not resume official royal duties.

According to Closer, sources claim the couple is documenting their correspondence with the royal family for their own protection.

The report also alleges that there have been multiple interactions between the couple and King Charles III. In some difficult situations, one courtier reportedly gives the Sussexes certain instructions, while another provides conflicting guidance.

The insider explained, “So they say they have no choice but to document everything the way they’re doing. It’s for their protection day-to-day.”

The couple has previously documented aspects of their lives. For instance, take their 2022 Netflix documentary, Harry & Meghan. In it, they offered a glimpse into their decision to leave the U.K. and step back from royal duties.

In one clip, Harry described the flight with Meghan as their “freedom flight.” According to the Closer source, they have continued documenting details of their experiences since returning to Britain.

“It’s not lost on anyone that this could very easily be used one day for protection on a much bigger scale. The Royal Family is legitimately worried about that. Even though both Harry and Meghan insist that’s not why they’re doing it,” the source said.

The insider further suggested that the records could become relevant in a potential “war of words” with the royal family.

“They could potentially make the royal family look very bad, either directly, by writing some sort of book or doing another Oprah-style interview, or indirectly by handing everything over to a biographer to use off the record. Either way, they are holding a lot of material with the potential to be really damaging to the to the royals; everyone knows that.”

However, the claims about the Sussexes’ alleged records and the royal family’s reported concerns remain attributed to Closer’s unnamed sources. Neither the couple’s alleged intentions nor the palace’s supposed concerns are independently established in the report.
