Jamie Lynn Spears is looking back on her time on Sweet Magnolias after Netflix canceled the series following five seasons. Jamie Lynn Spears says “Sweet Magnolias” was No. 1 around the world across its five-season Netflix run
Following the cancellation news, Spears took to Instagram to thank the people behind the series as well as its viewers. She wrote, “I can’t put into words how much the people who make up our Sweet Mags family mean to me.” Spears then highlighted what she described as the show’s impressive performance.
She explained, “It’s so rare to have 5 seasons straight be #1 around the whole world, in a business where getting a 2nd season of anything is almost impossible these days.”
The series was also significant personally and professionally for Spears, as it marked her first acting role in more than a decade after Zoey 101. Reflecting on her return to acting, she said, “Maddie was in middle school, & Ivey was a little baby, still breastfeeding when the producers were just crazy enough to give this insecure but hopeful young mama a chance.”
She added that the opportunity “gave a part of myself ‘life’ again.” Which helped her grow as an actress, but more importantly, “as a person and a mother.”
Spears ended her message by thanking everyone who supported the show. She wrote, “I owe it all to each and every person who loved Serenity, and the people who made it what it was, Thank you, Thank you, Thank you.” She mentioned, “I’m so grateful to be a part of this magical family and that’s something that will never end??.”
Meanwhile, Spears was not the only cast member to react to the cancellation. Joanna Garcia Switzer also reflected on what the series meant to her. Chris Medlin, Dion Johnstone, Logan Allen and director and executive producer Norman Buckley also shared messages following the show’s ending.
