Jason Oppenheim of Selling Sunset shifted his attention from luxury real estate to Los Angeles’ homelessness crisis during a sit-down with mayoral hopeful Nithya Raman.
The Oppenheim Group president challenged Raman to make significant progress on homelessness if she became Los Angeles mayor, while also making clear that he had not endorsed her campaign.
Jason Oppenheim challenges Nithya Raman to do more on L.A. homelessness
Oppenheim met with Raman at his office after the two attended a Food on Foot charity event together. Their conversation focused partly on how she had addressed homelessness while serving on the Los Angeles City Council.
The Selling Sunset star then gave Raman a specific challenge. He asked her to cut homelessness in half by the 2028 Olympics if she reached the mayor’s office.
Oppenheim even attached a lighthearted reward to the goal. He said Raman could ring the large bell in his office if she managed to accomplish it.
As per TMZ their meeting came after a history of disagreement. Oppenheim said he had previously challenged Raman over some of her policies on social media.
However, their more recent conversations changed how he viewed some of their differences. Oppenheim said discussions at various events, including one of Raman’s campaign appearances, helped him discover what he called “areas of synergy.”
He also acknowledged that Raman had some policies he considered good and said he wanted people to approach her positions with an open mind.
Still, Oppenheim stressed that the meeting did not amount to an endorsement.
He said he had not endorsed Raman or Karen Bass. He also remained open to sitting down with Bass for a similar conversation.
The meeting gave Oppenheim a chance to press Raman directly on homelessness while also exploring where their views overlapped after years of public disagreement.
For the Selling Sunset star, the challenge centered on whether city leadership could deliver a measurable reduction in homelessness before Los Angeles hosted the 2028 Olympics.
