The New York Knicks have hit an unexpected glitch that sent ticket prices soaring, creating a costly problem for the team and its fans. The Knicks’ administration has taken notice and is now working to fix the issue and get ticket sales back under control.
Knicks pause ticket sales after an internal mistake led to unusually high prices
The Knicks are in the midst of a vulnerable situation as they have hit an internal glitch. The latter has caused their ticket prices to go up astronomically. According to the New York Post, ticket prices rose to an unseemly level on Wednesday. This led to a minimum of $1000+ minimum for the season opener against the Sixers. The team administration was quick to take action and has paused ticket sales for now.
The team spokesperson said, “We are pausing Knicks individual ticket sales due to a mistake in our pricing.” They added, “We are rolling back to last year’s prices plus an average increase of 12%.”
The team is planning to restart ticket sales early next week with lower prices. In addition, the new markup will be a 12% increase over last year. This is also the price that season ticket holders will be paying.
The spokesperson continued, “We will restart sales with new prices shortly, and anyone who already purchased individual tickets will be refunded the difference. Our intention was never to overcharge our loyal fans, and we thank everyone for their support of the Knicks and their patience as we get this right.”
Fans who have already bought individual tickets at the higher price will be refunded the difference. This will take into consideration the 12% increase. It means that the prices will suddenly drop from the whopping $2,500 average.
When the team was under James Dolan, it was decided that prices would not be raised if the team failed to qualify for the postseason. However, since Jalen Brunson’s arrival, upticks have been common. This has been augmented by the Knicks advancing to the playoffs for four straight years.
