Tyra Banks is reportedly trying to get her hands on unaired and unedited footage from “America’s Next Top Model”.
Banks alleged that the edits done from her interview have portrayed her negatively.
Tyra wants raw interview footage from Miss J and Jay Manuel that was left out of the Netflix documentary
The debate stems from the docuseries, “Reality Check: Inside America’s Next Top Model” which shows edited portions of a lengthy interview. Consequently, Banks is seeking all unaired footage featuring ANTM judges Miss J Alexander, Nigel Barker, and Jay Manuel.
According to TMZ, the former Victoria Secret model has pushed back against the producers’ claim that the finally aired Netflix series was the product of “ordinary editorial decisions.” Banks is also seeking all unaired footage of her interview.
She is claiming unspecified damages for airing edited portions from a three-hour interview. The supermodel claims that the producers deftly manipulated the coverage of the interview by only airing 16 minutes in the three-part docuseries. In it, Banks claims, she is shown in a negative light in her involvement in the show’s biggest scandals.
However, the producers have argued that Tyra has no right to raw interview footage. She also has no say over the multifaceted material like story notes and depositions by the filmmakers and editors. Netflix has also opposed Banks’s demand for their internal viewership data.
The streaming platform continues in the lawsuit, saying, “She now alleges the documentary…defames her — not because it says anything false about her, but because she wanted advance notice of what another interviewee would say, more of her interview included, and her perspective presented differently.”
Netflix have since filed to dismiss Banks’s demand. Describing their share of liabilities, the platform’s lawsuit says, “After the interview, [Banks] signed an agreement granting the filmmakers the right to edit her interview footage, acknowledging she had ‘no right to review or approve’ the finished documentary”.
Banks once shared close relationships with all her co-stars but drifted apart for various reasons. Manuel has said that Banks became cold towards him when he wanted to exit the show.
