Man Accusing Stefon Diggs of Sexual Assault Fears Commanders Fans Could Sway Jury

Christopher Griffith has asked to move his lawsuit against Stefon Diggs away from the Washington Commanders’ home territory. He argued that local football ties could influence potential jurors considering his sexual assault allegations against the NFL star.

Griffith’s request came after Diggs joined the Commanders in August and scored during their Week 1 loss. His filing raised concerns about season-ticket holders, stadium workers and other fans entering the jury pool.

Christopher Griffith wants his case involving Stefon Diggs moved over concerns about the local Commanders fan base

TMZ reported that Griffith asked to relocate the ongoing case from Prince George’s County, Maryland. His lawyers argued that the courthouse was too close to the Commanders’ stadium and fan community. Griffith claimed some potential jurors could have personal or financial reasons to support Diggs. He argued that connection could matter when jurors assess whether his allegations are truthful.

His filing cited an “ordinary tendency to extend the benefit of the doubt to a hometown figure.” Griffith said that could happen when people had a stake in that figure’s success. The filing also pointed to the potential impact on the football season. Griffith argued that an accusation against Diggs could affect a player whom local fans wanted on the field.

The judge had not ruled on the request. Diggs joined Washington shortly before the dispute over the jury location intensified. The legal battle began after Diggs sued Griffith for defamation. The NFL receiver alleged that Griffith fabricated claims about an alleged sexual assault at Diggs’ Maryland home.

Griffith then countersued Diggs. He alleged that Diggs drugged and sexually assaulted him during a 2023 encounter. Griffith also alleged that others later attacked him after the incident. He claimed the alleged assault was intended to silence him about Diggs’ advances.

Diggs has denied Griffith’s allegations. The football star previously called claims involving alleged sexual conduct “completely false and defamatory,” according to TMZ. The case has already produced several contentious court battles. Griffith previously turned over extensive communications involving Diggs during discovery.

Earlier filings also involved allegations surrounding an attack in Los Angeles. Griffith claimed Diggs coordinated that incident, while Diggs disputed his accusations. The Commanders connection added another development to the lawsuit. Diggs became part of Washington’s football operation after signing with the team.

His Week 1 touchdown gave local fans an early reason to pay attention. Griffith’s latest filing argued that the local connection could become relevant inside the courtroom. For now, the judge still has to decide whether the case will remain in Prince George’s County.
