Ed Sheeran has fans across the globe thanks to his chart-topping hits, and everyone eagerly waits for his concerts or new releases. Whenever we mention Sheeran, one name that has remained associated with him for years is Macklemore. Everyone felt shocked when Sheeran removed the rapper from his concert. Now, the singer himself has explained why it happened.
Ed Sheeran says venues threatened to pull his shows if Macklemore remained on the tour and insists removing the rapper was not his decision
Recently, the singer shared a six-slide post on his official Instagram account explaining why he had to drop Macklemore from the tour. In the post, Ed Sheeran revealed that venues threatened to pull his shows if the rapper remained on the tour and insisted that removing Macklemore was not his decision.
Sheeran wrote, “Macklemore asked to join my tour last year and I agreed, because I respect him as an artist. As with all my support acts, I agree that they play a setlist of their choosing.”
“After Macklemore’s performances at my New Jersey shows, venues on my upcoming tour dates communicated that they would pull the shows if he was still supporting. I was informed that this stance was based on how Macklemore conveyed part of his message during his performance, rather than on everything that was said.” He added
Ed Sheeran explained that he tried everything he could to keep the rapper on the tour, speaking with the venues and everyone involved. However, Macklemore still had to leave the concert in the end. The 35-year-old made it clear that the Seattle-born rapper’s removal was the “promoter’s decision, it was not mine.”
For context, the 43-year-old rapper is facing this situation because he openly supported Palestine during one of his concerts. He also performed pro-Palestinian protest songs, which many considered a risky political move.
