Matlock Lawsuit Takes Ugly Turn as CBS Calls Claims ‘Fabricated’

The Matlock series recently concluded its second season, winning over fans and bringing more excitement with the promise of Season 3 this year. However, amid the good news, the series has also faced several controversies, including a lawsuit involving former writer John Lowe. Now, the legal matter has taken an ugly turn as CBS calls the claims “fabricated.”

CBS challenges former Matlock writer John Lowe’s discrimination lawsuit and calls his allegations “maliciously fabricated”

Reports say that CBS recently filed a motion to dismiss the lawsuit brought by John Lowe. In the lawsuit, the former writer accused the producers of creating a hostile work environment involving “sexually explicit and discriminatory conduct.” CBS has challenged those allegations, calling them “maliciously fabricated.”

According to The Wrap, CBS spokesperson said, “We take allegations of discrimination and harassment very seriously. Today, with the filing of our motion to strike, we took our first step toward challenging the baseless complaint filed by former Matlock writer John Lowe.”

“As stated in the motion and following a thorough investigation, we are confident that Lowe’s accusations are demonstrably inaccurate and maliciously fabricated, and will not allow them to go unchallenged.” He added

Spokesperson also said, “False allegations are deeply damaging, both to those wrongly accused, and to anyone with a serious and legitimate claim of discrimination.”

Later, CBS spokesperson assured that the company fully stands behind its producers and looks forward to the truth coming to light.

Talking about the Matlock drama, the first season premiered in 2024, while Season 2 debuted on October 12, 2025, and concluded on April 23, 2026. CBS officially renewed the show for Season 3 in January 2026.

Other writers include Jeffrey Lieber as a teleplay writer; Tommy Cook as a story and teleplay writer; Sheridan Watson and John Lowe as executive story editors; and David Aguilar and Lizzie Perrin as staff writers.
