Chris Rock Wants a Spot in the ‘Yellowstone’ Universe, but There’s a Twist

Chris Rock apparently wants a piece of Taylor Sheridan’s television empire. The comedian says he would happily accept a role from the Yellowstone creator if the opportunity came his way. However, Rock already has a very specific character in mind. Unsurprisingly, his pitch comes with the kind of provocative twist fans expect from his comedy.

Chris Rock jokes about playing a Black character with white slaves in ‘Yellowstone’

Rock shared his unusual pitch during a recent Variety interview. When the conversation turned to Sheridan, Rock made it clear that he admires the writer and producer’s work.

“If Taylor Sheridan’s got a job for me, I will take that job,” Rock said. He then joked that he could simply become “the Black guy on Yellowstone.”

Rock did not stop there. He imagined playing a Black landowner who owns property and has white slaves. The comedian then jokingly encouraged Sheridan to make an entire show around that idea.

The comments were clearly delivered as a comedic pitch rather than news about an actual project. Still, Rock’s interest in working with Sheridan appears genuine.

He also singled out Sheridan’s 2016 movie Hell or High Water for praise. Rock called himself a fan of the filmmaker and enthusiastically praised the Oscar-nominated Western crime drama.

Sheridan has built a sprawling television portfolio since Yellowstone premiered in 2018. His projects now include 1883, 1923, Landman, Lioness, Tulsa King, and The Madison. Paramount+ lists several of those titles among its current Sheridan offerings.

Sheridan has also ruled out a 6666 Ranch spinoff, saying he would not fictionalize the real Texas ranch. Rock has also been back in the spotlight recently. He spoke about the Will Smith Oscars slap while promoting his latest directing project.

Whether Chris Rock ever enters the Yellowstone universe remains to be seen. For now, he has certainly given Sheridan one unforgettable character pitch to consider.
