Spider-Noir is wrapping up after just one season, bringing the series to an unexpected early end. New comments from creator Oren Uziel have shed light on what he had planned for the show before Amazon Prime canceled the series. The creator revealed that the story had plenty of room to continue beyond its first season.
Spider-Noir creator Oren Uziel shares where Nicolas Cage’s story could have gone in Season 2 before Amazon canceled the series
Uziel has said that he already had a second season planned starring Nicholas Cage. Speaking to Variety, Uziel reflected on what could have been before Amazon Prime cancelled it. The show has unexpectedly won five Emmy Awards in its short duration. Uziel admitted that he already had plans for where Ben Reilly’s journey might go next.
“If I had my druthers, it would be probably another location,” Uziel said. “There are so many L.A. noirs we could have dove into.” He added, “There are European noirs we could have dove into. There are other places to go. You’re starting in 1933. Where is that heading? It’s heading toward just a most cataclysmic time — World War II. There was a lot of storytelling that could have happened there.”
Season 1 was set in New York. Uziel had also floated the idea of the show moving westward to Los Angeles. “L.A. for L.A., how great would that be?” he said. The show was cancelled just days before it won 5 Emmy awards, making the timing bittersweet. Uziel said that the cast and crew treated the awards night as a celebration rather than a farewell.
“I thought it was going to be disappointing timing at first,” he said. “I didn’t want people to go to this big night on Sunday having to worry or think about something disappointing or sad. But the truth is, it became kind of a big celebration of what we accomplished together.”
He also expressed hope of working with Cage again in the future, saying, “He’s such a leading man. To make these eight episodes, his first TV show, was just a dream. So I would love to do it again with Nic.”
Spider-Noir starred Nicolas Cage as Ben Reilly, a hard-boiled private investigator with Spider-Man powers in the 1930s New York, blending superhero action with classic noir storytelling.
