The former RHOBH star said she remained in active treatment. She also explained that her health still changed from day to day despite the progress she had made.
Teddi Mellencamp remains in treatment despite her encouraging cancer update
Mellencamp told Extra that she still had 10 months of immunotherapy ahead of her.
“I’m not allowed to say that I’m in remission, but I’m allowed to say that I’m cancer-free for right now,” she said. She added that the immunotherapy “seems to be working.” Mellencamp also pushed back against the idea that finishing radiation meant the difficult part had ended.
“You know, some days I feel great and some days I feel really low,” she said. She explained that people sometimes assumed patients had recovered once they completed radiation and moved to chemotherapy or immunotherapy.
“And you’re like, ‘No, I’m still in the midst of it,’” Mellencamp added. The cancer treatment also changed the way Mellencamp approached difficult days. She said she now openly told family and friends when she struggled instead of hiding it.
“This is a really hard day and, like, it has nothing to do with you, but I am really struggling,” she recalled telling loved ones.
That honesty helped her move forward without feeling judged. Mellencamp said her health journey also changed her perfectionist habits. She stopped trying to control every part of her schedule and became more flexible with her children.
The former RHOBH cast member also discussed whether she could return to reality television. She said The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills no longer felt like the right fit. “You know, I probably wouldn’t go back to ‘Beverly Hills,’” she said.
Mellencamp had filmed some material for The Real Housewives of Orange County and said that environment suited her better.
Despite the difficult days, Teddi Mellencamp said she focused on the progress she had made. She also reminded people to stay on top of their skin checks.
