Jennifer Lawrence joins Instagram as ‘jlaw’ after discovering her full name was already taken
Jennifer Lawrence is on Instagram with the username “jlaw.” She wrote in her bio, “jenniferlawrence was taken.” The username based on her full name was already taken by another Instagram user, so the actor cheekily used her bio to let fans know.
This marks her Instagram debut after years of staying away from social media. She previously had a Facebook page that was reportedly operated by her team. Soon after her debut on the app, she gained 173,000 followers, and the number continues to grow.
The account is verified. According to Just Jared, Lawrence’s team confirmed that the account is official. She reportedly created the Instagram account to promote her professional projects. She is making a cameo appearance in the upcoming Hunger Games prequel. Next year, she will star in What Happens at Night.
Lawrence followed several stars, including Leonardo DiCaprio, Martin Scorsese and Josh Hutcherson. She also followed friends like Dakota Johnson, Suki Waterhouse, Andy Cohen, Matt Rogers, Daniel Kaluuya, Bowen Yang, Keke Palmer, Amelia Dimoldenberg, Amy Schumer, Grace Gummer, Amy Poehler, Alex Consani, Ziwe, Ms. Rachel and Cleo Wade, among others.
Previously, she shared her thoughts on social media during an interview with BBC Radio 1. She said, “I will never get Twitter. I’m not very good with the phone or technology. I cannot really keep up with emails, so the idea of Twitter is so unthinkable to me.”
In 2018, she told InStyle that she often lurks on social media but does not post or speak to stay out of the spotlight. Her new account on Instagram marks another chapter in her social media journey. However, Lawrence has not shared any posts on the account yet.
