Wendy, a coyote known around Studio City, was euthanized after vets found two pellets in her head and severe damage to her upper jaw
A coyote named Wendy, beloved by people in L.A. around Studio City, met with a tragic fate. The 3-year-old coyote was reportedly shot in the face. Locals who often saw her wandering around noticed a large growth on one side of her face. The wildlife team had been searching for her for weeks.
Recently, she was spotted and rescued by the wildlife experts. The team captured Wendy last week after months of tracking sightings reported by residents. However, vets uncovered a horrific truth after examining her. Wendy was reportedly shot with a pellet gun, and two pellets were found in her head. According to TMZ, the wound caused an infection around her head and destroyed part of her upper jaw. Rescuers treated her and hoped to eventually send her back into the wild.
However, according to reports by vets, the infection was severe, and her jaw was damaged, which would have made eating difficult. They believed she would not survive on her own in the wild.
After living with the injury for more than a year, Wendy was euthanized. According to The Independent, the organization said, “After consulting together and carefully considering her long-term welfare and quality of life, we collectively determined that keeping her alive under those circumstances would not be humane.”
The wildlife experts hoped that they would return her to her natural habitat after her treatment. However, the extent of her injuries made it difficult, leaving veterinarians with few options for her long-term survival.
The person responsible for shooting Wendy has not been identified or held accountable.
