Emma Heming Willis opens up about moments of joy and connection with Bruce Willis as their family navigates his frontotemporal dementia diagnosis
Recently, Bruce Willis’ wife appeared on the MS NOW talk series Because We Care with Richard Lui. Emma Heming Willis opened up about the joyful moments she shares with the 71-year-old. She also discussed how their family navigates his frontotemporal dementia diagnosis.
According to Entertainment Weekly, Emma said, “We have still so many beautiful moments of joy and connection, and I think that’s really important to share because I think there’s such a negative narrative around dementia.”
“We need to be careful and reframe that. When we think about that or don’t want to talk about dementia and put it in a corner, the person living with the disease and their caregiver aren’t seen, they aren’t supported,” she added.
Later, she continued, “It’s important to know that it’s hard and it’s a terrible disease, but we have so many moments of joy and connection that aren’t your norm, but it’s okay. We’ve learned to adapt and show up for Bruce.”
For context, Bruce Willis’ family announced his retirement from acting in March 2022 and revealed that doctors had diagnosed the actor with aphasia, a language and communication disorder. In February 2023, the Sixth Sense star’s family revealed that his condition had progressed to frontotemporal dementia (FTD).
As for his current situation, Bruce Willis continues to battle the disease. His wife, Emma Heming Willis, continues to care for him. His family also actively supports him, including his ex-wife Demi Moore and his daughters.
