Variety posted on its X account that, according to Susan Sarandon, she has recently had movies taken away from her because of her support for Palestine. Natasha Lyonne responded to the post, saying that “Free Palestine” should not be considered radical.
Lyonne wrote, “… I believe it, @SUSANSARANDON! As a bonafide B’nai Yisroel who likes her cholent pretty mushy, dense and cozy on a lazy shabbos, I remain as perplexed as the rest as to what transpires next or how to square any of the layers of grief & beauty spilling out in all directions on this one.”
“Love to be believe in hope. #FreePalestine. It can’t still be that radical to say that, can it? (Alas, this was the draft!),” she added.
The 47-year-old has never worked with the British Academy Award-winning actress before, and there have never been any major reports of their paths crossing, despite Natasha Lyonne and Susan Sarandon being longtime veterans of the industry.
For context, The Rocky Horror Picture Show star has been vocal in her support for Palestine since 2023, following the start of the Israel-Hamas war. After attending pro-Palestinian rallies in New York, Susan Sarandon emerged as a prominent supporter of the cause. By November 2023, the actress noticed that her social activism was beginning to affect her film career.
Supporting a free Palestine is not the only cause Susan Sarandon has spoken out about. She has also used her platform to advocate for issues such as anti-war movements, criminal justice reform, environmental protection, and more. In addition, the That’s My Boy actress has previously served as a Goodwill Ambassador for UNICEF.
