Alexandra Artrip took to Instagram to address her recasting in Practical Magic.

She said, “I see a lot of content going around about the sequel, and I think the sentiment is right. You know, people are trying to show support for Evan and myself and the original film and everything that it’s meant to so many people, but I just don’t want my stuff to be a space for negativity.”

Alexandra Artrip and Evan Rachel Wood were recast in Practical Magic 2. Wood played Kylie Owens, while Alexandra Artrip played Antonia, Kylie’s sister in the original film. Joey King is playing Wood’s role, while Maisie Williams is taking over Artrip’s role in the upcoming sequel.

While discussing the actresses, Artrip said in her video that they are “lovely actresses.” She added, “Sure, the production team did what they felt was best for the film to be successful.”

Artrip shared the video in response to a comment on Instagram. She quoted the comment that read, “These to girls were perfect as is…I don’t want to watch Practical Magic now because of the changeup on the original.” She also launched an Instagram account to share her memories from the set.

According to AOL, Practical Magic 2 director Susanne Bier said they were not recast for personal reasons. “The kids in the story are right out of college, so it wasn’t really a question. We had to recast,” Bier said.

Evan Rachel Wood recently shaded the original cast, saying none of them reached out to her after the recasting. However, she also added that Joey King was the only person to connect with her.

Artrip’s comments came as the movie’s recasting continued to draw attention online. Practical Magic 2 is releasing in theaters on September 18.
