The Brady Bunch Movie star Christine Taylor, who played Marcia Brady, recalled being asked to lose 10 pounds for the 1995 film. The actress, now 55, was in her early 20s at the time and described the request as embarrassing. She said it showed just how different Hollywood’s standards were then, adding that such a demand would never happen today.
Christine Taylor recalled being asked to lose weight while playing Marcia Brady in The Brady Bunch Movie
Taylor shared the story during the September 2 episode of The Office Ladies, hosted by Jenna Fischer and Angela Kinsey. She said, as quoted by the Daily Mail, “The one thing that I got – and I was not a super heavy person – but they asked me to lose 10 pounds.” Although she agreed to lose the weight, Taylor added, “Of course, I was embarrassed when that ask came my way.”
Taylor pointed out that industry standards have changed significantly since then. She said Hollywood would “never” make a request like that today. She also joked that fans who watch the movie “very closely” can spot her putting the weight back on. Taylor explained that she regained the pounds after treating herself to nonfat frozen yogurt once filming ended. She added that reshoots made the change in her appearance noticeable. “I’ll come into a scene looking a little rounder, and then I exit the scene looking a little thinner, just because of how they had to reshoot things.”
It was her live stage performance in The Real Live Brady Bunch that helped her land the movie role. Her stage performance caught the eye of Sherwood Schwartz, creator of The Brady Bunch, who reached out to her. She reprised her role in the 1996 follow-up, A Very Brady Sequel.
Taylor is married to actor Ben Stiller. The couple met while working on Heat Vision and Jack and tied the knot in 2000. They announced their separation in 2017, but they continue to co-parent their two children, Ella, 24, and Quinlin, 21.
