Anna Wintour Faces ‘Mutiny’ as Insiders Expect Retirement ‘Soon’ — Source

Anna Wintour‘s long reign at Vogue may reportedly be entering its final chapter. Insiders say frustration with her leadership has grown in the fashion world. The speculation comes amid controversy surrounding a planned John Galliano exhibition. Sources now reportedly expect a retirement announcement “soon.”

Growing frustration inside Vogue has reportedly fueled speculation about Anna Wintour’s exit.

A source quoted by Naughty But Nice claimed that people inside Vogue increasingly expected Wintour to retire. However, no specific announcement date was provided. “People expect a retirement announcement,” the insider claimed. “Maybe not tomorrow, but soon.”

The source said Wintour had enjoyed an “extraordinary reign” at the fashion magazine. However, the insider believed the current period represented its “final chapter.” The latest controversy reportedly centered on John Galliano. A Costume Institute retrospective celebrating the designer’s work had sparked significant criticism.

The exhibition was subsequently cancelled amid backlash over Galliano’s past remarks. Galliano reportedly said he did not want the controversy to cause difficulties.

However, the source claimed the growing frustration involved more than one exhibition. “This feels like a mutiny,” the insider said. “People who wouldn’t have dared question Anna five years ago are questioning her now,” the source added. “Something fundamental has changed.”

The controversy also reportedly created questions surrounding the 2027 Met Gala. New York City Council Speaker Julie Menin publicly urged Wintour to reconsider honouring Galliano.

The event is scheduled for May 3, which reportedly coincides with Israel’s Holocaust Remembrance Day. The timing added further pressure. “For decades, Anna decided what was acceptable,” the source claimed. “Now people are asking whether Anna herself has become the problem.”

Wintour has survived numerous controversies throughout her decades-long career. However, the insider claimed her authority was no longer viewed as unquestionable.

For now, the fashion icon remains one of the industry’s most influential figures. But insiders reportedly believe a major leadership change could arrive sooner rather than later.

If those predictions prove correct, Wintour’s departure would mark the end of an extraordinary era. And according to the source, this time she may not decide who takes over next.
