Ben Stiller has revealed that fans missed one of his scenes in Happy Gilmore 2, in which he reprised his iconic role as the abusive nursing home orderly Hal L. The 60-year-old actor said the scene did not make it into the 2025 sequel. He also said he never asked Adam Sandler, who starred in and produced the film, about the decision.
Ben Stiller reveals he still hasn’t asked Sandler why his ‘Happy Gilmore 2’ scene was cut
During a recent appearance on the Fly on the Wall podcast with his wife, Christine Taylor, Stiller spoke with hosts Dana Carvey and David Spade. The actor said, “I’ll say this on this podcast — where I had a bit that got cut that I thought was really funny, and it got cut.” Adding, “I never confronted Adam about it. Maybe I should talk to him about it.”
Carvey playfully acted as though he were calling Adam to talk about the dilemma. He jokingly said, “No, he doesn’t seem mad, Adam. No, it’s just that it was… Tha-ba-thoo-da-you-too, buddy.” The 71-year-old comedian also shared that he and Spade hope to have Adam as a guest on their podcast soon. “I can’t believe he would cut Ben Stiller,” he added.
In response, Stiller said, “I don’t know, but I never talked to him about it because I felt like what was the line in that movie — because there’s a lot of stuff in that movie — that my little thing would get cut?”
Tim Herlihy and Adam co-wrote Happy Gilmore 2. The film follows Happy Gilmore, played by Adam Sandler, as he returns to professional golf to help cover his daughter’s tuition costs. The sequel stars Sandler and Ben Stiller, along with Benny Safdie, Bad Bunny, Travis Kelce, Margaret Qualley, Haley Joel Osment, and others. The film premiered worldwide exclusively on Netflix on July 25, 2025.
