Céline Dion discussed her stiff-person syndrome diagnosis in a new Harper’s BAZAAR interview. The singer said she preferred describing the condition differently. “It is a progressive condition,” Dion explained.
Dion also revealed why she avoided calling her condition a disease. “I don’t like to say ‘disease,’” she said. She then joked about how the word could sound when describing someone. She then joked about how the word could sound when describing someone.
The singer had previously shared her health struggles through her documentary I Am: Céline Dion. She explained why she wanted fans to understand what she experienced. Dion said their support gave her a reason to remain open.
She explained that speaking publicly was part of showing appreciation. “So the least I can do is tell them that I’m alive.”
Meanwhile, Dion was preparing to return to the stage in Paris. She was set to perform a five-week residency this fall. The upcoming shows marked an important return after her time away.
Dion said she wanted to give audiences something meaningful after their long absence. “It’s been so long, I would like to offer them something to show how I’ve missed them,” she said. Her comments reflected her strong connection with her audience.
The singer also discussed how her perspective changed while away. She said returning to public life required appreciating what she already had. “If you don’t want to sign autographs and you don’t want to get yourself pretty and you don’t want to be disturbed because your pasta is going to get cold, you can always stay home,” Dion said.
During those quieter years, Dion also found comfort in nature. “I love trees so much, and I had this vision of myself trying to disappear through the leaves,” she said.
Dion’s Paris residency was expected to give fans another chance to see her perform. Her latest comments also showed a changed perspective. She appeared focused on gratitude while continuing to navigate her condition.
