For Rodríguez, the familiar setting made the moment more meaningful. She wanted their children to remember their parents exchanging vows in a place connected to their everyday family life. Ronaldo similarly described the ceremony as a special occasion that they could celebrate in a normal way.

The private ceremony came just days after an unusual scene unfolded in Madeira. Hundreds of fans gathered outside Funchal Cathedral on Aug. 8 after rumors suggested Ronaldo and Rodríguez would marry there.
Instead, the crowd had arrived for another couple’s wedding. Ronaldo later reacted to footage of the Cristiano Ronaldo wedding venue mix-up with laughing emojis.
Despite the timing, the Madeira mix-up did not influence the couple’s plans. Vogue interviewed Ronaldo and Rodríguez five days before the wedding, when they had already decided to celebrate privately at home.
Afterward, the family traveled to Fatima for a private blessing. Ronaldo also told Vogue that he tends to avoid crowded places because large groups can make visits difficult.
The couple later confirmed their marriage on Instagram with a simple photo of their wedding bands. The low-key announcement soon sparked plenty of fan reactions, with many surprised by how understated the reveal was.
