Courtney Love revealed she nearly died after a devastating medical crisis following her 2019 move from Los Angeles to London. The Hole frontwoman described repeated hospital stays, severe weight loss, hair loss, and doctors warning her that death could come soon.
Love, 62, shared the revelation while discussing her long-awaited solo album and her plans to return to music. She said the experience shaped the record and changed how she wanted to approach life publicly.
Courtney Love revealed she almost died from a severe 2019 medical crisis after relocating to London
Love said her body “just exploded” after she moved to England. She recalled spending significant time in hospitals and dropping to roughly 100 pounds.
“When I went there, my body just exploded. It just exploded. And I was in hospitals a lot. I almost died,” Love said in her Instagram video.
“I lost all my hair. I was about 100 pounds. And they told me I was going to die. I didn’t believe them,” she added.
Love connected that refusal to believe doctors with experiences from childhood. She explained that she learned to question adults who contradicted what she could clearly see.
“When they said I was going to die, I just didn’t believe them. And somehow I got better. I’m healthy,” she said.
The singer previously revealed another serious Courtney Love health scare in 2021. She said severe anemia nearly killed her during a hospital stay.
At the time, Love claimed doctors stigmatized her as an addict while she endured debilitating pain. She later credited a compassionate pain-management doctor with helping her recover.
Love also revealed that her new record grew from that difficult period. She said she spent much of the recording process in hospitals.
“I want to tour more than anything. & I want to sing. That’s what keeps my soul & body happy,” she wrote.
The singer also revisited Hole’s 2010 album Nobody’s Daughter. She called its reception “spectacularly humbling” after disappointing festival experiences.
Love remained optimistic about her musical comeback. “People sound great live. The girlies are amazing,” she said, before adding, “I will be back.”
Her update suggested the Courtney Love new album could mark a fresh beginning. After years away, she appeared ready to step back into the spotlight.
