Shay sells part of her BÉIS stake to Samsonite while keeping 15% of the company
Shay Mitchell, 39, sold part of her stake in her company. The actress founded the travel bag company BÉIS in 2018, with the majority of its sales coming from lifestyle bags.
Her lifestyle bag brand was acquired by Samsonite Group. Shay is selling 15% of her original 30% while retaining the remaining 15% stake. Beach House Group, which was the owner of a 70% stake, is also selling to Samsonite as part of the deal. Samsonite will pay $178.5 million to acquire an 85% stake in BÉIS.
Mitchell sold her 15% stake for $31.5 million, while her remaining stock is also valued at $31.5 million. The business will continue to operate as a standalone company, and Adeela Hussain Johnson will serve as CEO, according to Just Jared.
Shay has stated on the sale; she said, “This is a dream come true. I’m so proud of what our small but mighty team has built over the past eight years. We’ve always dreamed big, and joining the Samsonite Group gives us the chance to dream even bigger. They’re truly the perfect partner – our strengths complement each other so well, together we can take BÉIS places we couldn’t have on our own.”
“I’m so thankful that I get to do something I love every day. Eight years in, I’m as excited as I was on day one. It honestly feels like we’re just getting started, and I can’t wait for everyone to see what’s next,” she added.
The actress said she is “committed to continuing to guide the brand’s long-term creative and product vision post-closing as Founder and Head of Creative and Design.” Since her first breakout role in Pretty Little Liars, the actress has continued to build her business ventures.
