Charli XCX expressed total shock after Nicole Kidman attended her show
Charli XCX opened up about Nicole Kidman’s surprise appearance at her Barclays Center concert in Brooklyn. The actress attended the May 4 show during Charli’s Brat tour.
In a British Vogue cover story published Thursday, Aug. 13, Charli praised Kidman and recalled her reaction to seeing the Oscar winner in the crowd. “She’s one of our last truly legendary movie stars,” Charli told the publication. “She came to my show in New York when I was on the Brat tour. I couldn’t believe she came.”
The singer added that seeing Kidman at the concert left her almost speechless. “Like, the Nicole Kidman is at my show … what the f—?” she said. Charli’s admiration for Kidman has been public for years. In February, she wore a shirt featuring three photos of the actress in a TikTok video. The shirt also featured Kidman’s name in large letters.
Kidman later shared a screenshot from the video on social media. She joked that she needed to get herself a Brat shirt and tagged Charli in the post. The connection between the two stars goes beyond Charli’s fashion choice. The singer has also cited Kidman’s work as an influence on her music.
According to People, in June 2024, Charli hosted a film series at New York City’s Roxy Cinema. The lineup included “To Die For,” the 1995 comedy-thriller starring Kidman. Charli explained at the time that the films connected with the world and energy behind her Brat album. She specifically pointed to Kidman’s character, Suzanne Stone and her intense desire for attention as one inspiration.
Kidman has also remained busy with her own projects. She is set to reprise her role as Gillian Owens in “Practical Magic 2,” which is scheduled to hit theaters Sept. 11.
Meanwhile, Charli’s latest album, “Music, Fashion, Film,” was released in July. Her continued admiration for Kidman now has another memorable chapter, thanks to the actress showing up at her New York concert.
