Dakota Mortensen says deleting social media apps has left him in a “better place,” explaining that he felt they were “really distracting me from being a dad.” This comes after he confirmed his relationship with Shinia Powell amid his ongoing custody battle with Taylor Frankie Paul.
Dakota Mortensen says a month away from social media helped him focus
The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives star made the comments in an Instagram Story on August 11, as reported by Us Weekly. He started by saying, “Hey, what’s up, guys. First things first, I just wanted to say hello. Second things second… I actually deleted all of my social media apps for over a month, and what an incredible experience. It was like detoxing. I’ve been to rehab, so it felt like detoxing from drugs, honestly. It was really good for me. I think I needed that.”
The 33-year-old continued, “Even if I haven’t been posting anything anyways really, but just scrolling even, seeing things … I don’t know, not super helpful for me and not super helpful for my situation. I think it was really distracting me from being a dad and being a better person.”
Mortensen wrote “Update or whatever” over the video before sharing another update. He said he intends to speak about the situation at some point but believes there are more important things requiring his attention right now. He said he plans to keep his energy focused on those priorities. As for social media, he acknowledged that he is unsure what comes next.
He explained that he intends to keep using social media for fun, as he has in the past. However, Mortensen said he would take a break if it became mentally unhealthy for him or step away from social media altogether.
Mortensen and his ex have been embroiled in a legal battle over their 2-year-old son, Ever. The pair began dating in July 2022, shortly after Paul announced her divorce from Tate Paul. Mortensen and Paul were never married but had an on-and-off relationship. They are also involved in an ongoing domestic violence investigation.
