Bachelor in Paradise star Joe Amabile reveals his diagnosis and treatment plan one week after brain surgery
Joe wrote on Instagram on Wednesday, August 12, “Recovery has been better than even I expected and I’m a pretty positive person.” He also thanked Dr. Golfinos and his team at NYU Langone for taking care of him. He then thanked his fans and friends for their support. Joe wrote, “I know a lot of you have reached out with so much love and support and it means a lot.”
He then joked about not responding to everyone. “If I haven’t got back to you it’s not because I didn’t see it, it’s because I don’t like you. Lol jk. I love you guys, I’ve just been very overwhelmed and focused on rest/recovery but the support means so much.”
In a video shared alongside the post, Joe explained more about his diagnosis and his current health update. He said, “We’re back, I’m back. It’s been a full week since my surgery. Recovery has been really great for the most part. I think I struggled at the beginning with speaking, just like knowing what to say but not being able to say it. And then, you know, just pain, obviously.”
“I do have an astrocytoma, but it’s very low grade,” he added.
Joe also revealed what comes next in his treatment. He said, “They (the doctors) did get the whole thing.” He also described, “When it comes to malignant brain tumors, they don’t know what’s left over, so I will be going on treatment, which is just a pill every day for the rest of my life to put the bad cells to sleep and hopefully they stay asleep.”
Joe first shared his health scare in July and a few photos on Instagram from his hospital bed on Aug. 6. Doctors had discovered a “blueberry size lesion” during an MRI after a Prenuvo scan. Meanwhile, Joe’s wife, Serena Pitt, has been by his side throughout the health scare.
