Oprah Winfrey and Stedman Graham Bring Their 40-Year Relationship Out of Hiding

After largely keeping their relationship out of the spotlight, Oprah Winfrey and Stedman Graham stepped out together for a rare public appearance. The couple was spotted in Chicago as Winfrey celebrated a major milestone, the 40th anniversary of The Oprah Winfrey Show.

Oprah marked the milestone at Reunion, Chef Art Smith’s restaurant in Chicago. She was joined by longtime partner Graham, with the couple posing alongside Smith and a large platter of fried chicken. Graham sported a sharp black suit and white shirt, while Winfrey opted for a cream pinstripe blazer and matching pants.

Jill Van Lokeren, who previously served as a senior supervising producer on the show, shared the snap on Instagram. The caption read, “15 year reunion for The Oprah Winfrey Show. The best segment 1 surprise guest showed up. A night of all love and pure joy. Forever grateful @oprah. + @thechefartsmith hosting at his fabulous @reunionnavypier was an added treat!”

Winfrey and Graham last stepped out together publicly at the Tyler Perry Studios Grand Opening Gala in October 2019, as per Hello! Magazine. The pair have been together since 1986, though they have never married. They met at a charity event, became friends, and began dating later that year.

After six years of dating, the couple got engaged in 1992. They called off the engagement the following year but chose to remain together. Oprah later explained their decision in a 2020 essay for Oprah Daily. She wrote, “In 1993, the moment after I said yes to his proposal, I had doubts. I realized I didn’t actually want a marriage. I wanted to be asked. I wanted to know he felt I was worthy of being his missus, but I didn’t want the sacrifices, the compromises, the day-in-day-out commitment required to make a marriage work. My life with the show was my priority, and we both knew it.”
