Joan Jett is stepping away from the stage for now. The rock icon has canceled her remaining scheduled concerts after an injury forced an unexpected change to her plans. The singer’s team shared a brief update with fans, making clear that recovery is now the priority. Jett is already looking ahead to performing again once she is ready.
Joan Jett is taking time away from performing to recover from a fractured vertebra
Jett’s team announced that the 67-year-old underwent orthopedic surgery for a fractured vertebra following a recent injury, The Sun reported. Her team did not disclose how or when the injury occurred.
Doctors advised Jett to skip her two remaining September performances. She planned to appear in Costa Mesa, California, on Sept. 5 and Louisville, Kentucky, on Sept. 24.
“While Joan hates to disappoint fans, she will be taking this time to focus on physical therapy and healing,” the statement said. Her team added that she is looking forward to “delivering tremendous concerts for many years to come.”
The cancellations come shortly after Joan Jett and the Blackhearts completed their first U.K. headline tour in 16 years. The band performed in London, Leeds and Manchester before continuing with other U.K. appearances. Jett had celebrated the European run on social media just days before news of her surgery emerged.
Her official website continues to highlight the band’s 2026 touring activity. However, the two canceled September performances were the final shows on Jett’s current schedule. Her team has not announced a date for her return.
Jett has spent decades onstage, first gaining prominence with the Runaways before forming Joan Jett and the Blackhearts. Their 1981 album “I Love Rock ’n Roll” produced the title track that became one of her signature songs.
Other performers have recently adjusted touring plans while recovering from health issues. Lady Gaga canceled a Montreal concert after a respiratory infection worsened, while Zayn Malik scrapped U.S. tour dates as he recovered from an undisclosed illness.
For Jett, the current pause is about giving her body time to heal. Her team did not provide a recovery timeline, leaving her next performance date open while she focuses on physical therapy.
