Sen. Mitch McConnell was discharged from a rehabilitation facility on August 6 and is continuing his recovery at home. The update comes after officials found the 84-year-old Kentucky Republican unconscious at his Washington, D.C., home on June 14.

McConnell said in a statement, as stated by CNN, “Earlier today, I was discharged from the rehabilitation center to continue my recovery at home. Elaine and I are grateful for the many well wishes and support from friends, colleagues, and Kentuckians, and for the attentive care I’ve received from excellent doctors, nurses, therapists, and hospital staff.”
He then added, “On the advice of my doctors, I’ll maintain an intensive regimen of physical therapy from home during the state work period, and I’ll continue to engage with my staff and colleagues on important Senate business.”
When McConnell was hospitalized, his spokesperson David Popp said the senator was taken to the hospital and is “receiving excellent care.” On June 22, Popp said that McConnell was “working closely with staff on Senate business and Kentucky matters as he continues his recovery,” Punchbowl News reported.
The update follows McConnell’s July 12 post, in which he shared a hospital photo and provided an update on his health. The image showed him sitting up in bed with a newspaper while his wife, Elaine Chao, sat by his side.
According to The Guardian, the senator previously said his doctors confirmed he avoided any broken bones, a concussion, heart attack, stroke, tumors, or haemorrhages. He said he briefly lost consciousness and received hospital care for several weeks, including treatment for mild pneumonia. McConnell said he has followed medical advice, undergone testing, and remains focused on recovery.
McConnell, whose current term is expected to conclude in January 2027, has faced several health concerns in recent years, as per ABC7News. These include a March 2023 fall resulting in a concussion and broken ribs. He also froze mid-sentence during a later news conference, and reports said he had suffered two more falls earlier that year.
