Tom Holland is already thinking about the day another actor takes over as Spider-Man. Still, he is not leaving the MCU role just yet.
Tom Holland said the plan for Spider-Man’s future has been in the works since No Way Home
TheWrap reported that Holland and the people behind the Spider-Man films have discussed how his story could eventually lead to a successor. During a recent “Happy Sad Confused” interview, he said the idea has been developing since production ended on “Spider-Man: No Way Home.”
“There’s a whole plan that we have been working on,” Holland told host Josh Horowitz. He said the outline will likely change, but he already has a clear vision for how Peter Parker can pass the baton to another Spider-Man.
Holland did not identify the next actor or character who might take over. He also did not suggest that “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” will mark his final MCU appearance. Instead, he described guiding the eventual transition as “the thing that I want to do most in this character.”
The comments echo Holland’s earlier thoughts about helping whoever follows him. In a June interview with Esquire, he said Robert Downey Jr. mentored him during his first three Marvel movies and that he would like to offer the same support to the next Spider-Man. Holland made his MCU debut in 2016’s “Captain America: Civil War” before starring in three released solo films and the upcoming “Spider-Man: Brand New Day.”
The actor has also expressed interest in seeing Miles Morales enter live action. However, neither Marvel nor Sony has confirmed whether Miles will become Holland’s Spider-Man successor.
Holland previously named “Adolescence” star Owen Cooper as someone who could carry the Spider-Man legacy. He also reconsidered his old claim that playing the hero after turning 30 would mean he had done “something wrong.”
His immediate focus remains “Spider-Man: Brand New Day,” which reunites him with Zendaya. Holland recently called Zendaya his “lifeline” during production and credited their trust with helping improve a scene.
For now, the plan remains flexible and largely secret. Holland’s remarks show that he is thinking beyond his own time in the suit, even as his next Spider-Man chapter begins.
