Green Bay Packers all-time leading rusher Ahman Green revealed devastating health news. He has been privately battling early-onset Parkinson’s disease for over a year. Green further explained why he kept the news secret and how he’s staying strong.
Ahman Green says he kept the diagnosis private
The Packers legend shared the news during an appearance on the Go Long With Tyler Dunne podcast. He detailed his journey from noticing early symptoms to receiving an official diagnosis. “Last year, I got diagnosed with early-onset Parkinson’s,” Green told Dunne. “I had a little bit of the feet twitching when I’m in my sleep and stuff like that. I knew something was going on long before that.”
Green, 49, said he officially learned of the diagnosis in January 2025 but chose to keep the news private until he could tell the people closest to him first.
“I didn’t share it for a long time because I wanted to let my kids know, my family,” Green said. “I let them all know first before I told friends, family, somebody like yourself.”
Despite the diagnosis, Green remained optimistic. “I got the reins,” Green said. “I’m in control. I’m not going to let this control me… on my side, the food is my medicine.”
He also said doctors were surprised by how well he presented physically despite the diagnosis. He said, “For the doctors that examine me, they said really, if they didn’t know what they knew about the early signs, they would have thought I was in great shape.”
Green’s revelation comes about two years after his former Packers teammate Brett Favre disclosed his own Parkinson’s diagnosis.
The former Pro Bowl running back is now using his platform to encourage conversations about Parkinson’s within the football community. Referring to its possible ties to repeated head trauma, Green said, “It needs to be up front. It needs to be a topic that’s always hit. And it’s not the end all.”
