Stassi Schroeder is revealing her mixed emotions about the reality show that made her famous. While promoting her new series, she looked back at her time on Vanderpump Rules and shared why she still struggles with that experience. Stassi said that she is grateful for the opportunities the Bravo series gave her. She also thinks the show left an emotional scar on her.
Stassi Schroeder says Vanderpump Rules favored male cast members
According to Us Magazine, during the premiere of Hulu and Freeform‘s House of Stassi, Stassi spoke with Katie Maloney about her years on Vanderpump Rules. She said many of the women from the show are still impacted by the experience. “I loved Vanderpump Rules, but it also is literally what we’re gonna have PTSD about and have to talk to therapists about for the rest of our lives,” she said. Stassi also said that the series was unfair to the women.
She criticized the way the show handled its cast. “It was always, ‘Make the girls look psychotic, make the girls look like they have issues.’ They covered for the boys, they covered for the men,” she said. Stassi says she has “mixed feelings” about the show that made her a household name. She added, “It normalized so much darkness,” and said it “rewarded so much darkness until it didn’t.”
Stassi also had to explain why she is nervous about returning to reality TV. “It’s all I know, I love it but I’m also traumatized by it,” she said. She said she did not want Vanderpump Rules to be her legacy. “I had to make this happen. I had to,” she said about launching her new show.
Stassi first appeared on The Amazing Race before joining Vanderpump Rules in 2013 after working at Lisa Vanderpump’s SUR restaurant. Later, she published the book Next Level Basic in 2019, but Bravo fired her with Kristin Doute in 2020 after a controversy with a former cast member, Faith Stowers. Stassi later released Off With My Head and, before her marriage to Beau Clark in 2020, concentrated on her podcast. The couple now has two children, Hartford and Messer.
