Senator Mark Kelly has sharpened his criticism of President Donald Trump. The Arizona Democrat says the administration’s alleged corruption has distracted from issues that affect ordinary Americans.
Sen. Mark Kelly implies Donald Trump’s alleged corruption is unprecedented
TMZ asked Kelly on July 28 whether a future Democratic president would dismantle parts of Trump’s legacy, including his planned White House ballroom and arch. Kelly argued that the next Democrat in the Oval Office would focus on improving the country instead.
Kelly accused Donald Trump of spending his time on “noise” that does nothing for everyday Americans. He then said Trump obsesses over “bulls*** and corruption,” according to the outlet. TMZ also asked whether the former astronaut might pursue the presidency himself in 2028.
The senator’s latest remarks echoed comments he made during a May interview with PBS’ “Overheard With Evan Smith”. Kelly said the amount of alleged corruption coming from the administration was “unprecedented,” “outrageous,” and “really obscene.”
Kelly cited what he described as pay-to-play conduct, donations connected to the ballroom, Mar-a-Lago fees, cryptocurrency ventures, meme coins, and overseas businesses. He called for investigations into the most serious allegations and said officials should face accountability.
The ballroom has already drawn scrutiny beyond Kelly’s comments. A reported no-bid construction contract reached up to $500 million, while another estimate suggested Trump’s wider Washington renovation projects could exceed $1 billion. The White House says private donors, including Trump, funded the ballroom project.
Kelly has also targeted a Justice Department fund that he and other Democratic senators claim could benefit Trump and his allies. In June, he helped introduce legislation designed to block those payments, calling the proposal “corruption in broad daylight.”
His blunt TMZ response follows another personal attack on Trump that fueled speculation about Kelly’s national ambitions. However, the senator has not announced a 2028 campaign.
