Macaulay Culkin could be one step closer to returning to the role that made him a holiday movie icon. A new industry report says Disney has met with the actor about another “Home Alone” project.
Insiders say Disney is reportedly exploring a Home Alone project involving Macaulay Culkin
Industry reporter Matthew Belloni shared the update on the July 28 episode of “The Town” podcast. Belloni said Disney had met with Culkin and was “salivating” over the prospect of bringing him back to the franchise.
Belloni also said he had spoken with people familiar with Culkin’s proposed story. According to the reporter, those who heard the pitch considered it a “really good idea”. Belloni framed the project as a possibility, not a confirmed production.
Culkin had already revealed that he was open to playing Kevin McCallister again. According to PEOPLE, during a November 2025 event celebrating the original movie’s 35th anniversary, he said he “wouldn’t be completely allergic” to another installment. Still, the actor stressed that any follow-up “would have to be just right.”
His idea would place Kevin on the other side of the traps. Culkin imagined the character as a widowed or divorced father whose demanding work life leaves his son feeling ignored. The child would lock Kevin outside the house and create obstacles to keep him out.
Culkin explained that the house would represent the father-son relationship. Kevin would need to earn his way back into both the home and his child’s heart, giving the familiar slapstick setup a more emotional purpose.
“Home Alone” has remained part of Culkin’s family life. He and Brenda Song have used the movie to teach their young sons about stranger danger, while one of their children once believed he was actually Kevin. Culkin has also explained why he left acting at 14.
Original director Chris Columbus has expressed doubts about revisiting the property, saying filmmakers could not recapture what made the first movie special. For now, the reported Disney meeting signals interest rather than certainty. Still, Culkin’s involvement would give a new chapter the connection many fans have wanted.
