Bill Maher has officially stopped letting Donald Trump‘s personal jabs get under his skin, and he’s not shy about explaining why. The Real Time host clapped back at Trump’s repeated insults, saying he’s “winning” the feud by simply not engaging anymore. His reaction came after roughly a decade of public back-and-forth.

During a recent episode of his Club Random podcast with British comedian Jack Whitehall, Maher opened up about why the president’s name-calling no longer bothers him.
Maher joked about Trump’s reported attempt to block him from receiving the Kennedy Center’s Mark Twain Prize for American Humor. The Real Time host implied it is a prime example of something he’s moved past. “I don’t care,” he said flatly. “I didn’t think it was ever going to happen,” Maher said about receiving the award.
The host highlighted a framed list of nearly 60 insults Trump has directed at him, calling it a “great artifact of history”, and saying he considers such surface-level controversies beneath his attention. He had carried the same list to the White House when he met Trump for dinner in March 2025 and had the president sign it.
Maher went on to call out people who are still fixating on Trump’s personality after all these years, saying they “need to examine their own priorities”. He said on the podcast, “If, at this point, 10 years into the Trump situation, you are still obsessing about his personality, my view is that’s on you.”
Simultaneously, Maher framed his mindset as a kind of victory. “I’m winning,” he said. “And I’m somebody he attacks personally, and I care less than you do. Your life is all about Donald Trump. Mine isn’t.”
The comments come months after Maher’s widely discussed White House dinner with Trump in March 2025. The infamous meeting drew backlash from some of Maher’s liberal fans. However, Maher has continued to defend it as an honest, good-faith interaction rather than an endorsement of Trump’s politics.
