Post Malone was forced to cancel his show after a storm ripped through the stage in Edmonton, Canada. The singer was escorted to a shelter, even as the town experienced inclement weather.
Post Malone addressed the crowd before dangerous lightning brought the concert to an early end
According to nine.com.au, Malone was performing onstage in Canada, where the lightning and rain were progressively getting more dangerous. According to a fan, the “ I Had Some Help” hitmaker was just two songs into his gig when the storm literally ripped the stage.
Malone told the crowd, “I got news in my ears… there’s lightning apparently, very close, so I guess they’re kicking me off the stage.” Malone assured the audience that it was properly a “weather delay,” and they would hopefully get back.
The singer also mentioned that he would have to go to a shelter. He said, “And I suppose it’s a weather delay, and we’re gonna come back out here, but they’re saying shelter in place, I guess, until they get the go-ahead.”
As Malone exited the stage, hail, sideways rain, and strong winds battered fans. Videos shared online showed concertgoers running for cover as heavy rain, hail, and strong winds swept through the stadium. The authorities eventually had to cancel the show altogether due to damage to the stage. Organizers are offering ticket refunds to fans.
Malone was performing a Saturday night show for his Big Ass Stadium Tour with Jelly Roll. The incident follows his recent performance at the closing ceremony of the FIFA World Cup.
Here, he opened his set with “Chrome Heartbreaker” before performing his 2018 hit “Wow”. He later brought out Swae Lee for a performance of Sunflower. Malone wore a classic Canadian tuxedo, pairing a denim jacket, jeans, and a T-shirt. It read, “Just hope both teams have fun.”
Following his World Cup performance, Malone resumed the Canadian leg of his Big Ass Stadium Tour Part 2, playing back-to-back shows at Commonwealth Stadium in Edmonton on July 24 and 25.
