Howard Stern is facing renewed criticism from longtime listeners after reports of major changes to his SiriusXM show. Some fans say the reduced schedule no longer justifies the cost of keeping their subscriptions.

The Sun reported that listeners threatened to cancel SiriusXM after learning that “The Howard Stern Show” will reportedly air only one new three-hour episode each week beginning this fall. The program previously released several live shows per week.
One listener wrote on X that paying for a single weekly episode was “insane” despite the show’s strong cast. Other fans said on Reddit that they had already ended subscriptions held for years. However, neither SiriusXM nor Stern has released data showing how many subscribers have actually canceled.
The backlash follows reported staff cuts announced earlier this month. Around a dozen employees reportedly learned during a Zoom meeting that their positions had been eliminated as the program prepared to reduce its output. Former contributors Benjy Bronk, Jon Blitt, Memet Walker and Mike Trainor were among those affected.
Trainor later confirmed that his 12-year run on the show had ended. Blitt addressed his departure with a joke video about starting a new job at Old Navy. Their comments gave listeners a clearer picture of the shake-up after the initial layoff report.
Stern signed a three-year extension with SiriusXM in December 2025. At the time, he said the agreement allowed him to continue broadcasting while gaining “more free time.” The renewal keeps his show on the platform through 2028.
That promise of flexibility now sits at the center of the dispute. Stern may remain on air, but some subscribers argue that one fresh episode per week offers too little new material. The rest of the schedule is expected to rely heavily on the show’s archive.
The reduced schedule will reportedly begin after Labor Day, when the program returns from its annual summer break. SiriusXM has not publicly detailed the new format or responded to the cancellation threats cited in the report.
The controversy comes less than a year after Stern dismissed speculation that SiriusXM planned to fire him. He said there was no truth to claims that the company wanted him gone because critics considered him “too woke.”
For now, the anger is visible mainly through social media posts rather than verified subscription figures. Still, the reaction shows that some loyal listeners see the layoffs and lighter schedule as a major break from the show they supported for years.
