‘The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel’ Set Designer Dies in Tragic Suspected Murder-Suicide

Mary Kate Golding, a set designer who worked on Prime Video’s The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, was found dead along with her husband. Police discovered a fatal stab wound on Golding, while Azzaretto was found hanging from a tree in Astoria Park. People reported that the NYPD is suspecting it as a possible murder-suicide.

Authorities are investigating the deaths as a possible murder-suicide

Golding, 34, was found shortly after midnight on Tuesday, July 21, 2026. She was found dead in the basement of her Queens, N.Y., home, according to the NYPD. Her husband, Joseph Azzaretto, was found dead hours later in a nearby park called Astoria Park South and Shore Boulevard.

Police discovered Mary after receiving a call from her Astoria residence. They found her with a stab wound to the back; she was pronounced dead at the scene.

As for her husband, Azzaretto, police responded to a 911 call reporting “an unconscious person in the vicinity of Astoria Park South and Shore Boulevard.” At approximately 6:39 a.m., officers found Azzaretto, 33, unresponsive and unconscious in the park. He was apparently hanging from a tree. Golding’s husband was also pronounced dead at the scene.

According to reports, the couple’s 11-month-old son was found beside his deceased mother at the scene. Golding’s friend reportedly discovered her body after Azzaretto called to confess to the killing. It is also alleged that the tragedy happened following an argument between the couple.

The NYPD has not publicly confirmed the murder-suicide determination, and officials say the case remains under active investigation. No further details about a possible motive have been released.

Golding has previously worked as a set director and designer on productions including The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, Goosebumps, Marry Me, Meet Cute, and The Big Sick.
