Pageant World Mourns LaToya Malcolm After Former Miss Universe Jamaica Finalist Dies at 35

Former Miss Jamaica Universe finalist LaToya Malcolm has died at the age of 35.

The Jamaican pageant and entertainment community is mourning her loss, with fans reminiscing about her in fond terms.

The Miss Universe Jamaica organization confirmed LaToya Malcolm’s death without disclosing a cause.

The Miss Universe Jamaica Instagram page wrote a tribute post captioned: “We mourn the passing of MUJ alumna LaToya Malcolm, who proudly competed in the 2024 Miss Universe Jamaica Competition. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family, friends, and loved ones. Rest peacefully, LaToya. You will never be forgotten.” 

The beauty queen’s death also brought an outpouring of support from her fans on social media. One person wrote, “She was such a wonderful person. When I met and worked with her in 2024, she was a breath of fresh air,” while another posted a heartfelt tribute, saying, “She was so full of light, always joyful. I’m still struggling to comprehend how this could even be possible. My condolences to her family and friends.”

According to Page Six, the organization has not revealed any specific cause of her untimely death. The page describes her as a Jamaican-based actor and entertainer with over a decade of experience in the entertainment industry, according to the Miss Universe Jamaica Instagram account.

Malcolm competed in the 2024 Miss Universe Jamaica pageant before going on to win the Miss Jamaica Bikini International 2024 title. Apart from participating in pageants, she also worked as a dance instructor, television presenter, and mentor.

She was also involved with the Transition project, a program which helped young people access education, career training, and employment opportunities. She appeared in TVJ’s Smile Jamaica, where she exhibited her love for dancing. 

In a 2024 interview with the Jamaica Observer, Malcolm revealed how she managed to prepare for the event in the aftermath of her father’s death earlier that year. She paid a tribute to her father with a post while sharing the interview, where she wrote, My beloved father, Mr. Malcolm, this win was for you.

Your one and only daughter continues to make you proud. I know you’re smiling down on me from heaven,” adding, I appreciate the continued love and support from my friends and family .”

As memories and tributes pour in, Malcolm is recollected with warmth and will be remembered for her kindness and achievements in pageantry and the Jamaican entertainment sphere.
