Zane recalled reports involving contaminated chowder served during production. He was unsure whether it was oatmeal or clam chowder. According to him, several people quickly recognised hallucinogenic symptoms. Others reportedly became frightened as the effects intensified.
Reports state that nearly 80 people required medical attention afterwards. Director James Cameron and actor Bill Paxton were among them. Paxton previously described confusion, anxiety, laughing, crying, and vomiting. Cameron also reportedly experienced similar symptoms that evening.
The incident reportedly happened during the filming sequence in Nova Scotia in 1996. Hospital staff allegedly faced chaotic scenes after everyone arrived together. Crew members reportedly wandered the hallways experiencing hallucinations. The unusual event later became one of Hollywood’s strangest production stories.
Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio reportedly escaped the incident entirely. They were not a part of the shooting during that affected production day. Veteran actress Gloria Stuart also remained unaffected, according to sources. She reportedly did not eat the contaminated chowder.
