Momager and Reality TV Star Kris Jenner’s mother, Mary Jo “MJ” Shannon, has passed away. The 70-year-old The Kardashians star shared the heartbreaking news with her Instagram followers on July 16, revealing that her mother died at age 91.

Kris paid tribute to her mother, writing, “There are no words that could ever capture what she has meant to me or the heartbreak of having to say goodbye. My mom was the heart of our family. She taught me everything that truly matters… to love your family fiercely, to be kind, to show up for the people you love, and to never take a single moment together for granted.”
She said her mother taught the family the importance of unconditional love, resilience, and faith. Kris also thanked her mother for her sacrifices, guidance, and the love she gave throughout her life, adding, “When I look at my kids and my grandkids, I will forever see pieces of you in all of us. There is not a part of me that isn’t shaped by you. And if I have done anything right in this world, it’s because I spent my life trying to live in a way that would make you proud.” Kris expressed that her heart is “broken into a million pieces,” and further said that her mother gave her the greatest childhood and a beautiful, blessed life.
MJ, who gave birth to Kris in 1955 and was grandmother to Kris’s six children, Kourtney, Kim, Khloé, Rob, Kendall, and Kylie, founded the San Diego children’s boutique Shannon & Co. in 1980, reports People. Before the Kardashian family became household names, MJ worked as an etiquette teacher, model, and entrepreneur.
